The guerrillas called Cangaceiros, were practically elevated to a a myth figure in Brazil.

One of them, especially Lampião, became character of the national imaginary,  as a kind of "Robin Hood",  who stole from the rich to give to the poor.

For the artist, myth and religion are deeply connected. Mythological figures are present in most religions and it is these figures that embody the soul of myth.

Also the myth can provide a religious experience. By telling or reenacting myths, members of traditional societies detach themselves from the present, returning to the mythical age, thereby coming closer to the divine.

This series is made in jute fabric, this textile is well known for packaging potatoes and coffee bags. The artist was interested in the jute due to its raw quality, quality that share with the history of these characters.
